The City of Miami has co-named a street in the Roads neighborhood after activist Tory Jacobs

The City of Miami has co-named a street in the Roads neighborhood after an activist who's been looking out for community interests for 30 years.

A section of Southeast 25th Road now bears the name Tory Jacobs Boulevard in honor of T. Sinclair ``Tory'' Jacobs, 86, who founded the Brickell Homeowners Association in 1990.

During Jacobs' 19-year tenure as head of the BHA, he interceded with city government on behalf of his high-rise community. The World War II veteran -- nicknamed ``Mr. Brickell'' -- is also known for his gentlemanly, soft-spoken demeanor.

Some of his signature issues include beautification, traffic and noise control.

Since its inception, Jacobs' group has grown to represent more than 17,500 residents of the Brickell community.

``It's been very rewarding to be involved with the city and involved with the community,'' said Jacobs, who stepped down as BHA president in June.
