Aventura is planning to pack Founders Park Bayside this Sunday for the 14th annual Founders Day celebration.
Organizers expect about 3,000 people to attend this year -- and the city has lined up a list of activities and entertainment designed to appeal to all age groups.
``We have an activity for everybody. We're celebrating the city,'' said Aventura Community Services director Bob Sherman.
For children, there will be arts and crafts booths, airbrush tattoos and face painting, rock-climbing walls, puppet shows and a mobile arcade. A ``Toddle Town'' play area promises to keep the 1- to 3-year-olds active and engaged.
Adults can test their coolness under pressure in the ``What's the Deal'' game show, or try their luck with bingo. For those looking to de-stress, there will be interactive yoga and dance demonstrations and health exhibits.
A talent show will pit 12 finalists against one another for the tile of ``Aventura Star.'' Staff from the Community Recreation Center are still reviewing the entries to determine the contestants, but Sherman said there will be performers of all ages.
No need to worry about eating ahead of time: food vendors will be there with hot dogs, burgers, cotton candy and more. Hot Brass Evolution, a band that models itself after the band Chicago, will be providing the day's soundtrack.
Founders Day is a day to commemorate Aventura's founding on Nov. 7, 1995, and is celebrated on the second Sunday of November every year. For those who want to know how the city got where it is today, there will be a presentation and slide show on the city's history -- a first for Founders Day.
``It's celebrating Aventura as a great place to live and work, do business and play,'' Sherman said. ``It's a great place to raise a family and it's a great lifestyle for our residents.''
