Israel's 60th birthday celebrated at JCC

Just last summer Netta Cassuto walked the streets of Jerusalem, visited a kibbutz and shopped in Ein Hod, an artist village. The 11-year-old who was born in Israel said there is just something about her homeland that she loves. She is excited that her family will be moving there come summer.

    Students honored by Do the Right Thing

    Students from schools throughout Miami-Dade County were named the March winners of the Do The Right Thing Program (DTRT), sponsored by the Miami Police Department, British Airways, The Miami Herald and WTVJ-NBC 6. Winners were selected from hundreds of nominations submitted to the program for March. City of Miami Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez, along with assistant chief Adam Burden, presented the students with their prizes at a ceremony April 17.

  • Beach resident's team raises $25K in MS walk

    Miami Beach resident Michael Ortega spent a recent Sunday walking 10 miles -- with 110 close acquaintances. Ortega, president of Miami-based CDC Builders, urged family members, friends and business associates to join him in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk on April 13 in Coral Gables to raise funds for the South Florida Chapter of the National MS Society. Ortega and his group were among about 1,000 participants in the event.
