Four students received $350 each, with commemorative plaques for their winning entries. They are Javier Bejamno, painting; Liana Frances Cohen, drawing; Jose Campa, mixed media and Katherine King, photography. Nine students were given honorable mention awards and they received $100 each along with a certificate. These winners are Matthew Chong, oil/mixed media; Jose Jimenez, charcoal; Libni Lozano, digital image; Jefried Lotti, oil; Dennis Escobar, wood; Luis Diaz, etching; Yisel Meneses, charcoal; Daniele Gabriel, mixed media; and Joshua Hall, mixed media.

This event is held in memory of longtime Rotarian Robert Horwitz and is sponsored by The Rotary Club of Miami Dadeland Pinecrest and the college. The project is funded by the sale of ceramics handcrafted by Ilajean Horwitz. Her pieces can be viewed at www.ceramicsforcharity.org.

RAMBLE NEEDS BOOKS

One of the most popular areas to shop at Fairchild's Ramble is at the Old and Rare Books section. In preparation for this year's Ramble, volunteers are busy collecting donations.

``We are still in need of many more donations,'' says Stuart Debenham who heads up Old and Rare Books. He said he is happy to receive out-of-print books, nonfiction books as well as current best-sellers, cookbooks, gardening books and more.

Please, no textbooks or magazines.

To make a donation, contact Debenham at 305-665-8572 or e-mail him at wdebenham@msn.com.

Fairchild's Ramble, one of the oldest festivals in Miami, was started by Nell Jennings 69 years ago in hopes of raising money for a much-needed truck for the Garden.

The Ramble is this upcoming weekend, starting Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
