Free alternatives abound to Art Basel festival
For families looking to enjoy the explosion of art events in South Florida this week without emptying their bank accounts, several Art Basel spinoffs offer a free alternative to the main event.

With the nation's premier art festival kicking off on Miami Beach this week and a slew of Art Basel spinoffs available, South Florida is at the moment inundated with art and culture.
And as artists from around the world showcase their talents, high rollers no doubt will be in town as well, attending posh parties and shelling out big money for top-priced art.
But where do you go if you want to immerse yourself in culture without emptying your wallet before stepping foot through the door?
Don't worry. There are plenty of peripheral Art Basel events and spinoff galleries around Miami and Miami Beach that offer a cut of the action at a convenient price: free.
Here are a few events that are open to the public at no cost:
NADA Art Fair. Deauville Beach Resort, 6701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach.
Organized by the nonprofit New Art Dealers Alliance, NADA features 80 galleries from 30 cities worldwide. Hours: 2 p.m.-8 p.m Thursday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
INK Miami. Suites of Dorchester, 1850 Collins Ave., Miami Beach.
INK features 10 publishers and dealers who will exhibit new publications, projects and acquisitions from contemporary artists specializing in works on paper. Hours: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
CANDO Arts Coop at Palm Court, 309 23rd St., Miami Beach.
More than a dozen Miami-area artists showcase their work in a gallery converted from the former W Hotel sales office. Hours: Noon-midnight Thursday through Sunday.
Oceanfront Nights, Collins Park, between 21st and 22nd streets.
A collaboration of Art Basel Miami Beach and Creative Time, several acts showcasing music, film and video art will perform nightly. Hours: 6 p.m.-midnight Thursday-Sunday.
Beg, Borrow and Steal. 95 NW 29th St., Miami.
This exhibition features 74 artists from the Rubell Family Collection in 28 galleries. Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday through Tuesday.
World Class Boxing, 170 NW 23rd St., Miami
Featuring Sylvie Fleury's Skin Crime 3, and Raymond Pettibon's Repeater Pencil. Hours: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Artists Studio Visits in Miami.

Al Razza performance, Gallery Art, 20633 Biscayne Blvd., Aventura.
Al Razza's Dance of the Chains will be performed Friday 7 p.m.-10 p.m. The Gallery Art will remain open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
