Pastor Brad Fink has been sharing the Redland Church of the Nazarene's history for the last two Sundays.
This Sunday, it will be time for partying, celebrating his denomination's centennial.
The church, at 22755 SW 177th Ave., will talk about how its denomination began as seven smaller ones, culminating with a southern group of churches uniting with its northern counterpart in Texas on Oct. 5, 1908.
''We can live this holy life that is mentioned in the Bible,'' Fink said, referring to the Holiness Movement in the 1900s that helped influence the beginning of the Nazarene denomination.
In 100 years, the Church of the Nazarene has grown to almost 21,000 churches around the globe.
The Redland Church of the Nazarene is a reflection of this growth: It started in the early 1990s after Hurricane Andrew.
Fran Benson helped establish the Redland church after Andrew devastated South Miami--Dade.
''It started with 11 people on the first Sunday,'' Benson said.
Today, the Redland church has more than 240 members.
''It's been great to see the growth,'' Benson said.
She expects to see many more people at the church's potluck dinner this Sunday.
Benson said there will be services at 9 and 11 a.m.
After the services, members and visitors will be able to enjoy a meal on the church grounds at noon.
