Homestead voters can get jump-start at polls

Homestead residents will vote for a mayor and four council members Tuesday.
The council seats include the northwest council seat (No. 1), southwest seat (No. 4), Waterstone seat (No. 5) and Oasis seat (No. 6). Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Mayor Lynda Bell is running for another two-year term against former city councilman Steve Bateman. Bell leads a slate of candidates including: Councilwoman Nazy Sierra, Councilmen Tim Nelson and Melvin McCormick and activist Angel Garrote.
Bateman, Councilwoman Judy Waldman and three challengers have said they are not a slate.
But Citizens for Reform for Miami-Dade County, a political action committee, is raising money for them.
The other candidates are Stephen Shelley, Elvis Maldonado and the Rev. Jimmie L. Williams III.
Incumbent Nelson is running for a fresh four-year term in the northwest seat against attorney Shelley.
McCormick faces a vocal critic, Williams, in his bid for reelection to the southwest seat. The winner will serve 4 years.
Sierra is competing against Maldonado, for the four-year Waterstone seat.
Waldman is running for a two-year term in the Oasis seat against Garrote, a businessman and local activist.
Voting locations are:
Precincts 907 and 949: Villages of Homestead Audubon Clubhouse, 1851 S. Canal Dr.
Precincts 915 and 933: South Dade Baptist Church, 17105 SW 296th St.
Precincts 916 and 917: Homestead Family YMCA of Greater Miami, 1034 NE Eighth St.
Precincts 919 and 948: Homestead Stadium Clubhouse, 1601 SE 28th Ave.
Precincts 918, 920, 921, 936: Philcol Williams Community Center, 951 SW Fourth St.
Precinct 934: Waterstone Grand, 4002 N. Waterstone Way.
Precinct 959: Waterstone II Clubhouse, 1355 Waterstone Way.
