A Homestead man has been arrested in connection with kidnapping and raping a woman in Key Largo.
The 34-year-old victim told police that Duglas Hernandez Morel, 33, kidnapped her from her ex-boyfriend’s house in Homestead, threatening anyone who tried to help her with a baseball bat. He drove south to the Keys in a black-colored sports utility vehicle, forcing her to have sex with him several times along the way, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Around Gilbert’s Resort, the woman tried to get help from a man who was fishing nearby, but Hernandez Morel threatened the two with a baseball bat until she got back into the car.
Deputy Matt Koval said he saw the car at mile marker 102 and followed it into Tradewinds Plaza. When the driver parked, the deputy forced the man out of the vehicle at gunpoint.
