A Jacksonville teen skipped work — so his dad sold his car on Craigslist.
Allan Gieger Jr. told the Florida Times-Union it took him 10 minutes to write the post, although he was initially hesitant to shame his son publicly. After missing work for two days because of a rash, Allan Gieger III was dropped off at work. He came home soon after and said he’d been fired for no reason, according to the Times-Union.
His boss later called and said Allan III had walked off. And for his father, that was the last straw.
“I have my son’s truck up for sale that I bought for him as his first car,” Allan Jr. wrote. “He thinks it’s cool to drive around with his friends, smokin’ dope and acting all thug, and especially not showing me and my wife the respect that we deserve.”
Never miss a local story.
He offered a $250 discount on the 1998 Ford Explorer to anyone who lived in the neighborhood, so his son could see it. He then posted the ad on Facebook, which has been shared almost 1,500 times.
Allan III told the Florida Times-Union he was initially angry, but the father and son reconciled after the post went viral.
“The way I feel toward my dad,” Allan III told the Times-Union. “Me and him, we’ve always had a good relationship, a good connection.”
“I love him to death,” Allan Jr. told the paper.
The car, however, was still sold.
The Times-Union reported that a Westside resident had put down a deposit Friday. The Craigslist post has since been updated to mark the car as sold.
