A man died Friday after accidentally falling into the roadway on Oakland Park Boulevard while attempting to fix a flat tire, then being hit by a car.
The driver that hit Chevanne Todd, 22, drove away and was later found at a relative’s home after crashing his car into a fence around a Florida Power & Light facility.
On Thursday just before midnight, Todd was traveling westbound on Oakland Park Boulevard in a 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo with two friends when he got a flat tire. He pulled over in the median of the road and fell backward into the eastbound lanes of the roadway while trying to fix the flat. He was then run over by a car, which left the scene going westbound on Oakland Park Boulevard. The driver of the car stopped to speak with Todd’s friends before fleeing. Todd was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died.
Richard Duncan, 22, was taken into custody in connection with the incident for leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, outstanding warrants and probation violation.
