A teacher’s assistant at a Broward County school is out of a job after he allegedly had inappropriate relations with a student.
Stefon Smith, a 23-year-old from Lauderhill, no longer works at Whispering Pines, according to Nadine Drew, a spokeswoman for Broward Schools.
According to the Miramar police report, from September to December, Smith and an 11th-grader followed each other on Instagram, the popular photo-sharing social media platform, and had inappropriate conversations online.
Smith, according to the report, sent the victim a picture of his penis and a masturbation video.
Smith would take the student out of the classroom, where he would touch her inappropriately in a lewd manner, police said.
Police said that Smith admitted to sending the picture and to touching her.
In response to the allegations Drew said in a statement, that “student safety is always the district’s priority.”
The statement also reads, “Stefon Smith was a probationary employee (teacher assistant) at Whispering Pines. Immediately upon becoming aware of the allegations, the school’s leadership removed him from the classroom and notified law enforcement. He is no longer working at the school.”
