A Florida man faces 35 years in prison after fatally ramming a horse named Ellie Mae with his Dodge Ram truck after being called a racial slur by a rider.
Christopher Todd of DeLand pleaded no contest to the charges on Monday, according to news-journalonline.com. The 22-year-old man was charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle and killing a horse.
According to the 911 call, the black Tennessee walking horse horse was struck a year ago after a dispute. A rider called Todd a racial slur after he was speeding through the area near Blue Spring State Park, according to the report.
“He just killed my horse,” Cassandra Burdick said in the 911 call. “All I did was I called him a (racial slur) because they were speeding through here.”
