A Southwest Florida man was hospitalized over the weekend after he tried to commit suicide by smashing his car into a Valrico home, said Tampa authorities.
Lee Collins, 55, stabbed himself several times before ramming into the house around 6 a.m. Saturday, eventually coming to a stop at the front door, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office told the Tampa Tribune.
The Valrico man was traveling at 60 to 70 mph in his 2015 Ford, deputies said. He told them it was a suicide attempt.
Collins was taken to Tampa General Hospital.
The two people in the home were unharmed. Engineers are figuring out whether the car can be removed safely and the extent of the damages.
