A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery Monday after authorities said he bit off the tip of a woman's middle finger after she waved it in his face during an argument.
Hillsborough sheriff's deputies responded to a battery call at 11506 U.S. 92 E and found the woman lying on a lawn chair, a half-inch of her finger missing. She underwent surgery to repair the wound, authorities said.
Christopher Butler of Seffner was arrested Monday night at his Taylor Road home. He was so intoxicated, deputies said, he could not stand on his own.
Butler had a cut on his nose and was taken to Tampa General Hospital for a medical evaluation before he was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail.
He faces a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, a felony. The new charge is a violation of his probation for a previous charge of battery on a law enforcement officer, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.
Butler is being held without bail.
Butler has a lengthy criminal history in the county, reports show, including charges for domestic violence battery, false imprisonment, burglary, criminal mischief, drug possession and grand theft.
