A woman’s body was found in the water off the north side of the Julia Tuttle Causeway Thursday morning, according to Miami officials.
“Paramedics went out to evaluate,” Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignacious Carroll said Thursday. “They noticed there was trauma to the body so as a result we did not want to move her any further so police could conduct their investigation.”
Police said the body had a bullet wound.
Police learned of the body after a call about a possible drowning. After police had arrived, a dive team and fireboat were dispatched to the area to investigate.
The Tuttle Causeway spans Biscayne Bay from 41st Street in Miami Beach to 36th Street in Miami and connects with State Road 112, the Airport Expressway.
The body was discovered by a couple fishing off the shore who notified police. Officials have not yet identified the body.
