The Miami-Dade County School Board will meet Wednesday to cast a final vote on the property tax rate and budget.
The proposed tax rate is slightly reduced from last year at $7.97 per $1,000 of taxable property value. Under that rate, the typical homeowner with a taxable property value of $157,000 would pay about $1,250.
The $2.9 billion proposed budget boosts reserves by $35 million and doesn’t include teacher layoffs for financial reasons, according to the district.
Also Wednesday, the district will approve its standardized testing calendar, which includes exams on all but eight days of the school year. Though the district says it is bound by state and federal regulations to administer the assessments, the frequency and importance placed on standardized tests in Florida have come under increased scrutiny recently.
The meeting begins at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of the school board building, which is located at 1450 NE Second Ave. in Miami.
