Ceremony honors nearly 400 'A' students at Gables High

Almost half of the Gables High Class of 2013 maintained a 3.5 GPA or better throughout their high school years.

The annual Elsa Glazer Awards Ceremony, honoring seniors who maintained an ‘A’ average (3.5 GPA or higher) throughout their high school career, was held Monday evening, April 8, at the Coral Gables Senior High auditorium.

The event honored 382 Gables High seniors, 46% of the Class of 2013 and an amazing 40% increase from last year’s total of 275, according to the school PTSA, which sponsored the ceremony.

Featured speaker was Gables High alumna Diana Diaz, morning anchor for WSVN Channel 7 News. Special guests included Jeremy Glazer, son of the late Elsa Glazer, a Gables High graduate who was a social worker and community advocate in Coral Gables for many years.

Honorees received roses and certificates for their achievement. Students in the school’s award-winning Culinary Arts Academy catered a reception with light refreshments for all the participants and guests.
