Police continued their search Tuesday for a man who shot and killed a mother of two outside her Miami home.
Arelys Gomez, 48, was outside her home in the 100 block of Southwest 52nd Place about 8:30 Saturday night when a man tried to rob her, Miami police said.
Scelida Hernandez, Gomez’s friend and tenant, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that she heard two gunshots and rushed outside to find Gomez bleeding. Hernandez told neighbors to call police.
“The police were talking to her, telling her not to fall asleep,” Hernandez said. “She kept saying, ‘My children! My children! My wallet! My wallet!’”

The robber shot Gomez several times before fleeing in an unknown direction, police said.
Miami Fire Rescue took Gomez to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she died soon after arrival.
Gomez’s wallet was later found in the neighborhood, Hernandez told CBS4.
Gomez, who Hernandez says was outside her home chasing her dog back into the property, leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter and a son in his 20s.
“It was a death she didn’t deserve because she a very kind person,” Hernandez said. “She served everyone.”
Police asked anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
