Incumbent South Miami Mayor Philip Stoddard was reelected Tuesday night, defeating former Mayor Horace Feliu and first-time candidate Claudia Hauri with nearly 53 percent of the vote.
Commissioners Bob Welsh and Josh Liebman ran unopposed, but Welsh won the vice mayor slot with almost 53 percent of the vote.
Stoddard, a biology professor at Florida International University, has been mayor for six years. His campaign focused on declines in crime levels and the property tax rate in the city, as well as the rise of South Miami’s emergency reserves during his tenure on the dais.
Feliu, who served as South Miami’s mayor from 2002-04 and 2006-10, received just under 40 percent of the vote and Hauri got 7.5 percent.
