The North Miami location of the Miami Beach Community Health Center plans to expand dental health services after receiving a $50,000 grant.
The new dental clinic is expected to open later in the fall at 11645 Biscayne Blvd., Suite 403. It will be open year-round and staffed by two dentists and a dental hygienist.
The grant was awarded by the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation so the center can purchase equipment for oral health screening and treatment for children and adults. The funding is supposed to allow access to these services for people who normally would not qualify for this kind of care, including patients on Medicaid.
More than 20% of adults in Miami-Dade County do not see a dentist because of the cost, according to an assessment by the Miami Beach Community Health Center.
Never miss a local story.
The center, which serves the uninsured and underinsured through public and private funding, issued a statement thanking the foundation for the award and highlighting the need for dental care in the area:
“There is an overwhelming need by residents in the community to have access to dental care. We’re here to address that need and this funding will allow MBCHC to expand our dental services.”
