After numerous delays and false starts, the developers of the Biscayne Landing property in North Miami have started construction on the first phase of the project.
The developers chose DC Equipment as the construction contractor for this first phase of the project.
“We look forward to working with Oleta Partners in making the Biscayne Landing project a reality,” Ricardo Rodriguez, president of DC Equipment, said in a statement.
Oleta Partners, said that 37 acres of the 190-acre property, at Northeast 151st Street and Biscayne Boulevard, will be used for two parks, recreation spaces and a community center. The company said the plan is to build shops, parks, a town center and more than 18 acres of retail space.
“Biscayne Landing will positively impact the future of the city of North Miami, its residents, and nearby communities by creating hundreds of jobs and generating millions of dollars in annual sales and tax revenues,” Michael Tillman, vice president of Oleta Partners, said in a statement.
This phase of construction begins a few weeks after the City Council voted to negotiate a deal between the city and the developers. Oleta was required to move about 194,000 cubic yards of contaminated crushed rock that was initially raised as an issue last year by the project’s site manager, Joe Celestin. The resolution also called for the city to negotiate the sale of about 50 acres of the property known as the “residential parcel.”
