Miami Springs police received what turned out to be a false 911 call at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, claiming that a hostage situation was under way in the 200 block of Reinette Drive.
The caller told authorities he had shot someone, taken hostages and had a bomb, a police official said.
More than two dozen police officers from Miami Springs, Hialeah, Virginia Gardens and Miami-Dade County responded in “emergency” mode, police said, set up barricades and took up positions. Several county fire engines and rescue vehicles were also dispatched.
But when they arrived, police determined the 911 call was a hoax. Now they want to find the caller.
They asked anyone with information about the hoax to call the Miami Springs Police Department at 305-888-9711.
