Miami Springs is looking for a new police chief.
Chief Peter Baan, who has been with the Miami Springs Police Department since 1974, is expected to retire by the end of this year.
Baan, whose salary was $137,970 last year, will receive a monthly pension benefit of about $11,000.
The new chief can expect a starting salary between $77,233 and $114,406, according to the city, and will be responsible for overseeing a department with 38 officers and a budget of nearly $6 million.
Miami Springs is advertising for a new chief on the city website. Some of the requirements include:• A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
• Seven years of “progressively responsible” experience.
• Passing a “rigorous” background check.
The city noted a preference for a Spanish-speaking candidate.
Applicants can send resumes to the city’s Human Resources Department, 201 Westward Drive, Miami Springs, FL 33166.
The application deadline is Sept. 30.
