I read all the stories last week on the mayor saga and shocked to find that the Town of Miami Lakes rejected Mayor Pizzi’s proposal to pay his own legal fees as long as Slaton pays his and the town accepts whatever the court says is the correct law.
It seems like the perfect and most fair approach and that Mayor Pizzi is the only person who cares about the taxpayers. Under the approach supported by Vice Mayor Manny Cid and the town council, the town is paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in Slaton’s personal legal bills and they are going to pay this money even if Slaton loses. This is after Vice Mayor Cid and the Council threw away over $70,000 on a Supreme Court brief that was filed late.
The Council seems to have forgotten that the money they are spending belongs to the people. It is our money and Cid and the rest have no right to spend it on their political agenda no matter what it is. I congratulate Pizzi on being the only official who seems to understand what it means to be a fiscal conservative. The town has provided a blank check to spend money on a political agenda that should be spent on the people. Shame on them all. They have lost my vote.

In regard to the Miami Lakes Mayor issue, I find the bad judgment by the Town Attorney and the Town Council to be unforgivable. I reviewed all of the articles and watch the meetings. This is the biggest waste of tax money in municipal history and I believe that Town Attorney Gastesi should be fired and Vice Mayor Cid and the Council members should all be recalled or voted out of office. If Pizzi and his lawyers offered to drop the Town Clerk from the lawsuit, it is an insult to the taxpayers that Gastesi, Cid and the Town Council would insist that she remain in the lawsuit at a cost of $375.00 per hours for no reason. If Pizzi offered to pay his own fees as long as Slaton pays his, I cannot think of any reason why the Council would not immediately embrace that. Under the Pizzi plan the taxpayers would pay zero. Let Slaton pays his own bills and let the Town just go along with whatever ever the court says. It is hard to believe that not one Council person seems to give a hoot about the people’s money. Sure — go ahead and spend a thousand dollars an hour, as long as it is coming from the people and not Manny Cid or Gastesi’s pocket. If Cid and Gastesi were paying they would sing a different tune.
