Councilman Manny Cid has become the latest person to turn in a statement of candidacy document for the Miami Lakes mayoral seat.
Cid, who is finishing his first four-year term as a councilman, declared his interest in the mayoral position Monday morning.
“I am a son of this community, I have such an intimate relationship with this community,” said Cid, adding that his friends and family encouraged him to run. “I asked God for guidance and it felt right. I wholeheartedly believe this is the right move for the future of Miami Lakes.”
This fall, Cid turned in a state of candidacy form for Seat 5, but he since withdrew that document.
In December, Councilman Ceasar Mestre and former Mayor Wayne Slaton turned in candidacy documents for the mayoral seat. Meanwhile incumbent Mayor Michael Pizzi hasn’t announced a run for a third term.
Councilman Tony Lama, Seat 3, and Seat 1 Councilman Nelson Rodriguez have turned in candidacy forms to maintain their positions.
The qualifying period for the 2016 election officially opens noon July 25 and closes noon Aug. 3.
