A man who was part of a cleaning crew at the Clevelander Hotel & Bar in Miami Beach was arrested after police say he sexually assaulted a woman in an elevator.

Eberto Medrano-Ramirez, 30, was charged with sexual battery and remained in jail Sunday — a day after the early morning incident — on $10,000 bond.

Miami Beach police spokeswoman Detective Vivian Thayer said Sunday that a woman, who is not being identified because of the nature of the crime, somehow ended up disoriented and naked on the roof of the hotel at 1020 Ocean Dr.

“He apparently tried to help and got her into the elevator and that’s where the incident happened,” she said.

It is not clear how or why the woman was on the roof, Thayer said.

Thayer said the victim went to her hotel room after the 3:30 a.m. elevator ride and called police about three hours later.

“She was able to describe him,” Thayer said.

Police say Medrano-Ramirez, who worked for a cleaning service and not the hotel directly, is the only person arrested in connection with the assault.

“We believe he acted alone,” she said.
