A minivan driver struck a Miami-Dade police officer — who was riding on a motorcycle — after running a stop sign in Kendall Monday afternoon, according to police.
Both the police officer and the minivan driver, who were not seriously injured, were taken to nearby hospitals.
The accident happened just before 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 9000 block of Southwest 137th Avenue.
According to police, the motorcycle officer, a 22-year veteran of the force, was heading south on Southwest 137th Avenue when Rafael Rodriguez-Peguero, 79, failed to stop while attempting to make a left turn onto Southwest 137th Ave.
The officer, who was ejected from his motorcycle, was taken to Kendall Regional Hospital Trauma Center. He was listed in stable condition, police said. Rodriguez-Peguero was taken to West Kendall Baptist Hospital with minor injuries.
