A bicyclist was struck and killed in Homestead by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday, police said.
Police identified the victim as Joe Edward Torres of Homestead; he had been riding his bicycle near the heavily traveled intersection of Krome Avenue and Mowry Drive around 6:45 a.m.
Torres, 29, died on impact , Homestead police Detective Fernando Morales said. The small, gray SUV fled the scene, and police are trying to find the person responsible.
Morales said the SUV might have damage to the front left corner, hood and windshield.

“We've had way too many hit-and-runs in South Florida; there has to be someone who might have seen something,” Morales said.
