Miami-Dade police detectives were looking Sunday for two masked men who, they say, robbed a pizza delivery man at gunpoint in Southwest Miami-Dade and then shot him as he tried to drive away.
The shooting took place about 1 a.m. in the area of Southwest 200th Street and 123rd Drive.
According to police, Gustavo Gutierrez-Escoria, 59, arrived at a home to deliver pizza and no one answered the door. When Gutierrez-Escoria called the phone number on the order, the person who answered told him they were getting cash from an ATM.
When Gutierrez-Escoria saw the subjects arrive, he got out the car, police said. That’s when he was confronted by two masked men. One man demanded his money, and the other reached into Gutierrez-Escoria’s pants pocket, according to police.
Gutierrez-Escoria tried taking off in his car, and the men shot at him. He was wounded, but managed to drive back to his restaurant and call 911.
He was airlifted to Kendall Regional Trauma Center, and was in stable condition.
Police asked anyone with information to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-8477.
