A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Homestead, a few minutes after he and his companion were initially hit by another car.
The driver of a red pickup sped from the scene after midnight Friday on northbound U.S. 1 at Southwest 288th Street. A white Honda that initially struck the two pedestrians did stop. No charges have been filed.
The couple were trying to cross the street when they were struck. The man died and the woman he was with was taken to Homestead Hospital.
Distraught family members came to the area and "threatened to go to the house and come back with an AK-47," said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez. Miami-Dade police were called in to control the situation.'
