A Hialeah man, who appears to have died of natural causes, left behind 51 loose dogs inside his two-bedroom home, on May 31, police said.
The deceased man's elderly parents remained inside the home with the dogs, police said, and appeared to suffer from dementia. They were taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
Miami-Dade County’s Animal Services rescued the dogs, which need veterinary care, according to Anthony Castaneda, an animal control employee who helped provide care for the dogs at the animal shelter in Medley.
Castaneda said Sunday that some of the dogs have already been adopted. To help the dogs find homes quickly, the county has waived adoption fees.
