Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews used the “jaws of life” Tuesday morning to free a man who was pinned in his SUV, which had flipped on its side and crashed into a tree.
The single-vehicle accident happened at about 9 a.m. Tuesday at Northwest 70th Street and 17th Avenue, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay.
When crews arrived, the adult passenger, who was injured, was outside of the vehicle. The driver was pinned under the dashboard, Lay said.
“We had to turn the vehicle upright to extricate him,” he said.
Crews used two cables to stabilize the car and “slowly and methodically” turn it over. The “jaws of life” were used to remove the SUV’s roof.
Meanwhile, a trauma surgeon from Jackson Memorial Hospital responded to the accident as a precaution.
The man, who was alert, was freed and taken to the hospital.
