Cutler Bay had a record 80 participants involved in October during its third annual Senior Games.
Athletes ages 50 and up came from as far north as West Palm Beach and as far south as Key Largo to compete in 13 different events. The most popular: basketball, swimming, pickleball, tennis, table tennis, horseshoes, billiards, bowling and shuffleboard.
Richard Foley won more than 10 medals in the swimming events, Arthur Keys won three gold medals and Carol Sadlek won a silver medal in bowling. Sadlek will move on to participate in the state games from Dec. 3 to Dec. 11 in Clearwater. Council member Sue Ellen Loyzelle qualified to compete in horseshoes at the state games.
On Oct. 21, the town hosted an awards ceremony and barbecue at the town hall building. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, Cutler Bay Mayor Peggy Bell and Loyzelle recognized the participants and medalists. AARP and the Alliance for Aging also attended the Senior Games closing ceremony.
