Aventura’s Loehmann’s Fashion Island is getting a new name and a new image.

Now that Loehmann’s is gone, owner Turnberry Associates on Tuesday announced plans to bring in new tenants and reposition the 187,000-square-foot property as Town Center Aventura. Construction at the center, which is located at Biscayne Boulevard and 187th Street, will begin in January.

Plans call for a face-lift designed to capitalize on the move toward lifestyle centers, which encourage visitors to linger and enjoy a mix of shopping, dining and family-friendly entertainment.

In the spot that housed Loehmann’s, Saks Fifth Avenue’s Off 5th will be building a larger 34,000-square-foot store that is scheduled to open in Sept. 2013.

Loehmann’s will open a larger store this Thursday down the street at 19915 Biscayne Blvd., at Biscayne Retail Plaza.

Town Center Aventura will feature upgraded building facades, enhanced landscaping and a site plan designed to improve the ability for pedestrians to stroll the property. Plus, there will be a gazebo added on-site to hold afternoon and evening entertainment events.

Turnberry is partnering on the project with investors advised by Prudential Real Estate Investors. The developer declined to reveal total project cost.

As part of the renovations, plans call for the addition of about three new national retailers and three new restaurants, including a sit-down restaurant, cafe and fast casual dining option.
