Anyone who has ever been a child, or had one, knows the importance of parks on a city and its residents. Yet parks — where fun and fitness often meet — can be for everyone and serve many purposes.
From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 25, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces department and the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade will be mixing those fun and fitness elements of parks by hosting a Fitness Dance Party at Tropical Park’s Equestrian Complex.
The free event, sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida, is being called the largest event of its kind in Miami, and hundreds are expected to show up. The dance party is open to Miami residents of all ages and skill levels. Those attending will dance to DJ music and be able to follow dance exercises led by professional Zumba instructors, according to a county news release.
The idea for the dance party came after the huge success of Zumba events for the Active Older Adults Program, and Noches Tropicales in Tropical Park.
Never miss a local story.
The Equestrian Complex, where is the dance fiesta will take place, is traditionally a site for horse events and more than equipped to hold the Fitness Dance Party. The complex has more than 150,000 square feet of floor space, so there is for plenty of room to kick it up or move those hips, and large overhead fans to keep dancers cool while they boogie.
This event is one of several upcoming Miami-Dade Parks outdoor summer events — all part of their countywide health initiative. The Miami-Dade Parks Department is aiming to foster improved health, fitness and wellness among Miami-Dade residents.
July is national Parks and Recreation Month and the dance party highlights the county’s parks and recreational activities. The department hopes to increase attention to its variety of programming which can help families be more active, stay fit and have fun. In addition to the party, there will be a variety of activities offered in July appropriate for people of different ages, interests and abilities, according to the news release.
The Tropical Park Equestrian Center is located at 7900 SW 40th St. For directions or more information, visit the Tropical Park web page, or call 305-226-8316. The Fitness Dance Party is free and no reservations are required.
