A scheduled shutdown of State Road 112 on Wednesday and Thursday has been postponed, Miami-Dade Expressway Authority officials say, but a Tuesday-night closure of a part of westbound State Road 836 will go on as scheduled.
MDX planned to close 112 to install electronic tolling equipment. “But some of the material we need for the installation isn’t being delivered on time, so the contractor asked that we postpone it for a time,” said MDX spokesman Mario Diaz.
The 112 closures will be rescheduled, but MDX hasn’t set a date for them yet, he added.
Meanwhile, installation of the tolling equipment is continuing as scheduled on 836. The east-bound lanes between 57th and 72 avenues were set to close at 9 p.m. Monday and reopen at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The west-bound lanes will shut down at 9 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 5:30 Wednesday morning.
The electronic tolling equipment won’t go into action until the end of the year. It’s being installed to close loopholes that allow some vehicles traveling between certain freeway exits to escape tolls.
