Two major east-west expressways in Miami-Dade County will experience partial closings starting Monday night while electronic tolling equipment is installed.

State roads 836 (the Dolphin Expressway) and 112 (the Airport Expressway) will close from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on the follwing nights:

•  Monday: Eastbound 836 between 57th and 72nd avenues.
•  Tuesday: Westbound 836 between 57th and 72nd avenues.
•  Wednesday: Westbound 112 between Interstate 95 and 22nd Avenue.
•  Thursday: Eastbound 112 between I-95 and 22nd Avenue.

The overhead scanners will do away with the need for tollbooths. They will also close loopholes that allow some cars traveling between certain exits to escape tolls.

Tolls will be collected automatically from SunPass transponders or billed by license plate. The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority is offering the mini-sticker version of SunPass, which normally sells for $4.95, free to anyone who comes into the agency’s headquarters at 3790 NW 21st St., Miami, to open a SunPass account.
