Biologist, neighbors to hold bat watch at Gables golf course

Holy grassroots effort, bat fans!

Holy grassroots effort, bat fans!

A Florida International University biologist studying a band of endangered Florida bonneted bats that live at the Granada Golf Course in Coral Gables is organizing a bat watch at 8 p.m. Sunday, with the help of neighbors.

Bacardi, which adorns its rum bottles with a fruit bat for good luck, will supply refreshments. Volunteers may bring an iPad to track bat calls for research, as well as flashlights and blankets. They should meet at the southeast corner of the course at Coral Way and South Greenway Drive.
