An “inattentive” 18-year-old woman hit a curb and launched a Volkswagen Jetta through a busy Miami Springs coin laundry last week, injuring two people and wiping out a row of washing machines, according to police.
The driver failed to brake and accelerated into the business in the 300 block of North Royal Poinciana Boulevard at 10:20 p.m. July 2, hitting two people “near the clothes folding table,” the Miami Springs police report states.
The injured parties, who sustained “non-incapaciting injuries,” were taken to an area hospital.
A tow truck had to pry the car out “from the middle of the building,” the report states.
The driver, Jessica Duran, and her two female passengers, 12 and 20, were not injured. Duran, who has only a learner’s permit, was cited for careless driving and failing to obey license restrictions.
Duran’s mother received a citation for “allowing her daughter to drive without a valid driver’s license,” the report states.
