Bernex Lucas, who police say shot his stepdaughter on her birthday, and fired a weapon at her mom, but missed, gave himself up Monday.

Once he was in custody, Miami-Dade police added a host of charges unrelated to last week’s shooting incident, but charges that may provide insight into what happened.

In addition to premeditated attempted murder, false imprisonment and battery, Lucas was charged with sexual battery on a family member and lewd and lascivious molestation.

Police say Lucas sexually battered the 21-year-old stepdaughter.

A witness told investigators that she saw the young woman on the street screaming for help and bleeding from a bullet wound. She is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Police said that after Lucas shot his stepdaughter in the family’s home in the 15000 block of Biscayne River Drive, he fled in a 2014 white Toyota Tundra truck that later was recovered at Northwest 167th Street and First Avenue.

Lucas was nowhere to be found, and police warned he should be considered armed and dangerous.

He turned himself in Monday night.

Neighbors said Lucas and his family have been dealing with personal problems for years.
