Police were searching Wednesday for a man who shot a woman dead behind a daycare center in North Miami-Dade.
Miami-Dade Police said the shooter got into a fight with Michelle Wilcox, 33, of Opa-locka, in a home, chased her almost two blocks, then shot her on a swale behind the daycare.
No one was injured at the Academy of Knowledge preschool, police said.
Police said the couple got into an argument in the home at 11741 NW 22nd Ct. The fight began “escalating,” with Wilcox running from the home, and the man chasing her, police said. The shooting took place just after 3 p.m. at 2240 NW 119th Street.
“He actually chased her out of the house, and caught up to her,” said to Miami-Dade police Detective Roy Rutland.
Police did not immediately release the name of the man, but said that after shooting Wilcox, he fled in a white sedan.
Police said the shooter was still at large as of 10:30 p.m.
