A 12-year-old boy struck Thursday on a neighborhood street by a speeding Chevy Camaro has died, according to police.
Nicholas Murrell was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, but succumbed to his injuries Friday, Miami Gardens police said. Police are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
According to police, Murrell was fatally struck just after 4 p.m. Thursday when the drivers of a black Mercedes sedan and red, convertible Camaro decided to race north on Northwest 29th Avenue near 152nd Terrace.
At that time, Nicholas was playing football with friends, witnesses told Miami Herald news partner WFOR-CBS4. The ball went into the street, the boy’s brother said, and the red Camaro struck him when he went to grab it.

“It was his turn, so he threw the football, and he tried to throw it at me but he missed,” Aaron Morris told CBS. “So the football went in the road and he tried to get it, but the black car tried to get past him and the red car hit him and kept going.”
Anyone with information about the crash should call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
