A body found over the weekend in a Biscayne Bay mangrove swamp is indeed that of a 42-year-old man who reportedly fell from a small plane flying over Miami-Dade last week, police said Monday.
“We are confirming that the body recovered is that of Gerardo Nales,” said Detective Roy Rutland, a Miami-Dade Police spokesman.
Police did not release a cause of death for Nales, whose body was discovered Saturday near Southwest 184th Street by Marine Patrol officers. Police had been searching for Nales for three days, beginning Thursday when the pilot of a Piper Malibu flying some 2,000 feet over the Atlantic said his passenger opened the plane door and fell out.
The Federal Aviation Administration, which is also investigating, declined to release any further information Monday.
