Zoo Miami closed on Monday after a power transformer blew, cutting electricity to concession stands and bathrooms.
Zoo spokesman Ron Magill said a Florida Power & Light transformer stopped working about 9:30 a.m. at the zoo at 12400 SW 152nd St.
A crew from Florida Power & Light is on site making repairs.
Magill said emergency generators are supplying the power needed to keep the zoo animals secure.
“All of the generators are running,” he said. “It sounds like a train.”
The repairs should be complete later Monday afternoon. Magill expects the zoo will reopen on Tuesday.
