A Lower Keys man wanted for an attempted murder in February was captured last week in Miami-Dade County and brought back to face charges he slashed a man’s throat with a broken bottle.
Yordan Alvarez, 26, of Big Coppitt Key on Friday remained in the Stock Island county jail on $150,000 bond.
Alvarez is accused of inflicting a life-threatening injury to the neck of Oleimys Abal Clemente, 39, who told deputies he was attacked while at his sister’s house, 316 Avenue D, on Feb. 7.
Clemente said Alvarez was accusing him of “snitching” on something related to Alvarez’s girlfriend and hit him over the head with a beer bottle, which broke and left a cut on his forehead, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Then Alvarez allegedly stabbed Clemente in the throat with the broken bottle while Alvarez’ cousin, Amaury Alvarez, punched Clemente in the face.
Clemente later told detectives “he believed the punch to the face deflected the bottle and kept the cut from being more serious than it was,” said Deputy Becky Herrin, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Amaury Alvarez was arrested March 19 in Hernando County on a warrant for battery in connection with the case.
The victim’s sister said both Alvarezes were living on the same property she was at the time of the attack.
