A late-night argument between parents Lashunda Bowers and Timothy Hollis ended with their 1-year-old daughter dead on a Dania Beach street and their 7-year-old son in Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
Hollis shot each before killing himself near where Kalila and Timothy Jr. lay.
Hollis has relatives living in the Royal Palm Apartments, a complex separated from industrial buildings to the south by Southwest First Street and houses to the east by Eighth Avenue. The Broward Sheriff’s Office says that’s where the disagreeing couple drove with the children.
Bowers went into the complex to talk to Hollis’ family around 1:30 a.m.

Shots interrupted the night. When Bowers and Hollis’ family came out to the corner, they found, according to neighbors, Kalila Hollis in the street and Timothy Hollis Jr. on the sidewalk near Hollis.
Hollis, 32, does not have a history of violence, according to Broward court records.
“We are heartbroken by the horrific violence perpetrated against these innocent children and we are praying for Timothy’s recovery,” Department of Children and Families Secretary Mike Carroll said in an e-mailed statement. “The family has a history with Florida’s child welfare system in South Florida and we will work closely with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Child Protective Investigations Section to examine all interactions with this family to see if this tragedy could have been prevented in any way.”
