The father of a 15-year-old who drowned in a lake behind a Fort Lauderdale firehouse late Wednesday night identified the teenager to news media as Fritznel Pierre.
According to a report from Herald news partner CBS4, Pierre’s friends said he was swimming with friends in the lake just west of Federal Highway and just north of Sunrise Boulevard. He drowned after tiring.
A three and a half hour search made more difficult by the darkness of night and water ended at 1 a.m. Thursday when Pierre’s body was pulled from the water.
“A wonderful, wonderful life was taken. He was a very good boy. He’s been in my house, I’ve known him forever. These children have grown up together,” one mother told CBS4. “Tragedies happen and we need to all come together, love our children and know where are children are every moment of the day.”
