New details emerged Thursday about a domestic dispute in Hollywood that ended with a woman dead and man being shot by officers.
Michael James, 27, who was recovering at Memorial Regional Hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, was charged with first- degree murder and arson.
Police say James called 911 at about 3 a.m. Wednesday to say he shot and killed his wife for “not being loyal.”
When officers arrived at the home at 1331 N. 72nd Ave. they found James, in a bloody gray sweatshirt, pacing on the porch, according to a police report.
At one point, James “aggressively began charging” toward an officer despite commands to stop, according to the report. That's when the officer opened fire. Another officer also shot one round at James.
When police asked him if he there was anyone else in the home he replied: “No, it was just me and my dead wife,” an officer wrote in the report.
James then told police there was never a gun and he actually stabbed his wife, according to the report.
When police entered the house to find his wife, they found smoke coming from a bedroom. There they found Latoya James, 27, on a bed, dead, according to the report.
The Broward Medical Examiner's Office later determined that Latoya James was stabbed in the neck, back and head.
