A teen driving on Interstate 95 in South Broward Monday afternoon lost control of his car, struck a concrete barrier wall and ricocheted into a tractor trailer, sending the young man to the hospital with critical injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Steve Beurry Jeannot, 19, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling south near Pembroke Road at 1:28 p.m. in his 2004 Toyota Corolla when he veered to the left, hit the barrier and spun off the wall into the path of a tractor trailer, the FHP said.
He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Roscoe Battle, 45, of Abbeville, Georgia, was not injured in the crash.
The accident blocked all lanes Monday afternoon, causing major traffic hassles as rush rush hour approached.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
