Plantation police are trying to find the person who shot and killed a man outside the Del Oro Apartments across from Plantation High School on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim’s body was found right beneath a large tree just feet from the complex’s parking lot. Investigators said the victim is 25. Investigators have not released his name and a neighbor said the man lived in the complex and had recently moved here from Jamaica, where he has two children.
Investigators are not releasing many details but do not believe the shooting was random.
“I believe it’s an isolated incident,” said Plantation Police Detective Philip Toman. “That’s the way it appears right now.”
Never miss a local story.
A resident who lives nearby but did not want to share his identity said the shooting surprised him.
“I heard six or seven gunshots,” he said. “They said a car pulled up, shot him and drove off.”
Police say the shooter fired anywhere from four to 12 shots at the victim. Investigators do not have a motive and they spent Tuesday evening interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
A few buildings down from the murder scene, a resident at an apartment said a bullet burst into her daughter’s window right around the time of the shooting down the street.
“She’s freaked out,” the woman said.
Police are working to determine whether the shootings are related.
Neighbors told CBS4’s Carey Codd the police were there a few hours before the shooting to break up a big fight. It’s not clear whether that fight had anything to do with the murder a few hours later.
Investigators have not released the name of the victim. They are still trying to notify his next of kin.
